Winter Fun in Amarillo

With its location in the Panhandle, Amarillo sees its share of winter days including some snowy ones. That doesn't, however, mean the travel fun comes to a stop; you'll find plenty of activities around the city on cold days. Here's a list from the Amarillo CVB of cold weather activities:

1. Enjoy a symphony, ballet, opera or concert at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts. For arts activities not at the Globe-News Center, check the city's online arts calendar.

2. Horseback ride, hike, mountain bike, and camp without the summertime crowds in Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Don't forget the cabins on the canyon rim.

3. Eat at the Big Texan Steak Ranch - big steak or not, it's a one of a kind experience. Can't get to Amarillo? Order your own 72 ounce steak online!

4. Get your kicks on Historic Route 66. Try lunch at the Golden Light Cafe and browse the streets antique shops and galleries. Check back in the evening for local musicians.

5. Catch professional hockey action with the Amarillo Gorillas at the Amarillo Civic Center. Before or after the game, visit rejuvenated Polk St. for dinner, drinks and music.

6. Enjoy shopping Amarillo-style at boutique-filled Wolflin Village, the unique Crafter's Mall and a great selection of western stores.

7. It may be cold outside, but inside the Bivins Tropical Conservatory at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens it is warm enough for tropical flora.
