Driskill Hotel, Austin

Austin’s most historic hotel was built in 1888 with a stained-glass dome and 30-foot high ceilings. Full of Texas history, architectural beauties, elegant furnishings, and artwork, today the totally renovated hotel has been restored to its original grandeur, having hosted dignitaries, heads of state, legislators, and lobbyists. President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird always stayed at the Driskill and even had their own suite.

The hotel has 177 luxuriously appointed rooms and seven suites, a full service restaurant, lobby piano lounge, 24-hour room service, gift shop, concierge desk, and valet parking—and is right on the corner of Brazos and 6th Street, Austin’s famed entertainment district.

The Driskill pampers guests with a complimentary coffee and newspaper each morning and a complimentary happy hour each evening. Restaurants, shops, the Capitol, and the Governor’s Mansion are all within walking distance.

Location: 604 Brazos St. (downtown)
