Driskill Hotel, Austin Austins most historic hotel was built in 1888 with a stained-glass dome and 30-foot high ceilings. Full of Texas history, architectural beauties, elegant furnishings, and artwork, today the totally renovated hotel has been restored to its original grandeur, having hosted dignitaries, heads of state, legislators, and lobbyists. President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird always stayed at the Driskill and even had their own suite.
