Austin Education & Austin
Austin is often touted as the most highly educated community in the US among cities with over 250,000 population. More than 35% of the adults boast 16 or more years
of education; nearly half completed high school and/or some college. One
in nine adults is currently enrolled in an Austin area college or university. Much of that education stems from the University
of Texas at Austin, a sprawling campus that enrolls over 48,000 students.
The third largest state learning institution in the nation, the University
of Texas at Austin, or UT as it's more commonly known, includes top programs
in liberal arts, engineering, business, and natural sciences. The campus
includes the sixth largest academic library in the country. Other higher education campuses include Austin Community
College, St. Edward's University, Huston-Tillotson College, and Concordia
Lutheran College. There are more than 15 school districts in the Austin area, although most of the city is covered by the Austin Independent School District with nearly 100 campuses and over 73,000 students. District offices are located at the Carruth Administration Center, 1111 W. Sixth St., Austin, TX 78703-5399 or call 512/414-1700. On the western edge of the city, Eanes Independent
School District in Westlake Hills operates four elementary schools, two
middle schools, and one high school. Return to Austin Travel Guide
