"Austin City Limits" TV Show

Many television viewers around the world get their first glimpse of the capital city through "Austin City Limits," a public television program produced in a television studio on the University of Texas campus. Hundreds of markets carry the popular show which spotlights Texas music, especially Austin performers.

Past productions have included Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Gary P. Nunn, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bonnie Raitt, and Austin's own guitarist, the late Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Tickets to the taping of the show are free, but difficult to obtain. Call the KLRU hotline at 512/475-9077 and listen for the artist, taping date, time, and the radio stations that will be handling ticket distribution.

Radio stations will announce the time the tickets will be given away. Once the radio announcement is made, go to the KLRU offices in Communications Building "B" at the corner of 26th Street and Guadalupe Street on the UT campus. Two tickets per person are given away but be warned--they often disappear within five minutes of the radio announcement.

And once you have a ticket, you don't have a guaranteed seat at the taping. To ensure a full house, the staff distributes more tickets than there are available seats. Get there early the night of the show.

Even if you don't get to see the taping of the show, you can schedule a look at the Austin City Limits studio. Call 512/471-4811 to arrange a visit.
