Austin Public Library The Austin Public Library offers a variety
of programs including storytimes, films, arts and crafts, and puppet shows.
The programs are scheduled at the main library as well as branch libraries
scattered throughout the city. The main library, housed at 800 Guadalupe
Street, is named for John Henry Faulk, a well-known Austin humorist and
writer. The library system, with an annual budget exceeding $10 million,
has over a million holdings. Youth programs at the Austin Public Library
include toddler Storytimes for ages 18 months to 3 years with an adult,
preschool Storytimes for young listeners 4 to 5 years old, and Storytimes
for all age groups. A Summer Fun Club is offered every year to children
6 to 10 years old. Other programs include films, arts and crafts, and
puppet shows. One of the most recognized library programs is the Victory Program. Victory Program Homework Centers offer free tutoring to young Austinites using VISTA volunteers. The program was named one of the top 50 outstanding programs for youth in U.S. schools and public libraries by the American Library Association. Check with these branch libraries for information
