Austin Bus Service

Capital Metro

Austin’s clean-air Capital Metro city buses (they burn natural gas) serve passengers on 48 routes downtown and around town. The transit system is not only easy to use, it’s a bargain at less than the price of a soft drink. Special services are offered for the mobility impaired.

Capital Metro’s downtown information center is at 106 East 8th Street (just east of Congress Avenue) on the ground floor of the Bremond Building. There you can purchase tickets and passes, take photos for identification cards, find or return lost items, and pick up service information. For schedules and route maps, check the Capital Metro website.

’Dillo Express

To get around only the downtown area, take the green ’Dillo Express—it’s “free for the taking.” The ’Dillo provides free circular service to downtown and the restaurants and clubs on 6th Street, to ACC (Austin Community College) Campus, UT (University of Texas) Campus, and State Office Buildings. There's also a weekend route that links the most popular tourist attractions. For more information, see the Cap Metro website for hours and a Dillo schedule.

The University of Texas Shuttle

The University shuttle is available to everyone, not just UT students. It runs between the campus and many parts of the city. The cost is 50 cents per trip if you do not have a UT identification card. For more information, see the UT website for a map and shuttle information.
