Capitol Complex Visitors Center

Once the workplace of short story writer O. Henry, this building now operates as a visitors center and Texas History Museum, with displays and exhibits about the center of Texas government.

The Center is housed in the former 1857 General Land Office Building, the oldest surviving state office building in Texas. This German Romanesque building has been renovated to its original appearance.

Inside, the Texas Department of Transportation operates a travel information center. "A Lone Star Legacy: The Texas Capitol Complex," a 23-minute film narrated by newsman Walter Cronkite, runs continuously. Exhibits describe the history of the buildings as well as their restorations.

Located at E. 11th and Brazos on the southeast corner of the Capitol complex.
