Nearby: Westcave Preserve Part of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Preserve, this preserve is home to a 50-foot waterfall on Hamilton Creek, a favorite Texas swimming hole surrounded by a fern-filled grotto, and many protected species. The golden-cheeked warbler makes its home in the preserve's juniper trees. You'll also find protected plant species here including the canyon mock-orange, red bay and chatter box orchid. While the park is known for its endangered species and its swimming hole, that pool is not always opened to the public due to high bacteria levels; call (512) 264-2740 to check on swimming conditions before making the long drive here. Guided tours are also available on Sundays at 10 a.m. or by appointment (call 512-264-2740). Directions: Head west
of Austin on TX 71 one mile past Bee Cave; turn left (south) on
FM 3238 and continue for 17 miles. For More Information: see the Travis County parks website Return to Bee Cave Travel Guide
