Southern Lake Travis LCRA Parks

Grelle Recreation Area
Recommended for: hikers, boaters, swimmers

Grelle is often visited for its two-mile hiking trail, which leads visitors along a steep path to a plateau with views of Lake Travis. The site is also popular for its shoreline as well. Visitors here will find only primitive facilities: a composting toilet, metal fire rings, and a small parking area.

Location: upper south side of Lake Travis near the community of Spicewood. From Austin, to the southeast, take TX 71 and turn north on Spur 191 and proceed approximately one mile to Spicewood. Take a right on Burnet County Road 404 and travel approximately one mile to the intersection of Burnet County Road 412, a gravel road. Turn left and travel approximately 6/10 of a mile to the entrance for the Grelle Resource Area.

Muleshoe Recreation Area
Recommended for: hikers, horseback riders

Muleshoe Bend is appropriately named: a two-mile looped trail is a favorite with those looking to take a four-legged ride through undeveloped hill country. Horseback riders and hikers enjoy the trail located on the upper area of the park. This is the largest property in the LCRA system with 1,000 acres but offers only primitive facilities: composting toilets, metal fire rings, and a parking area.

Location: upper south side of Lake Travis near the Ridge Harbor subdivision. From Austin, to the southeast, take TX 71. Turn right on Burnet County Road 404 and proceed about 4.5 miles to Burnet County Road 414. Turn right and travel about 1.5 miles then turn right before the entrance to Ridge Harbor. The pavement ends but continue to drive for .3 miles on the gravel road to the entrance.

Narrows Recreation Area
Recommended for: boaters

This free recreation area is used by boaters looking for a site to launch into the upper south side of Lake Travis. The ramp, however, should be used with caution during low water periods. Only minimal facilities (no restrooms or drinking water) are available here with a few camping sites and metal fire rings. This recreation area should be avoided during heavy rains; the access road traverses a low water crossing that may become impassable.

Location: upper south side of Lake Travis near the community of Spicewood. From Austin, to the southeast, take TX 71 and turn north on Spur 191 and proceed approximately one mile to Spicewood. Continue traveling north approximately 1.1 miles on Burnet County Road 410 to the intersection of Burnet County Road 411, which is a gravel road. Once on County Road 411, travel approximately 1.5 miles north to the entrance for the Narrows Resource Area.
