Austin Nightlife: Country Music

BROKEN SPOKE

The Broken Spoke is a genuine country dancehall—even though it’s also a restaurant, with chicken-fried steak a big item on the menu. The Broken Spoke is famous for being the spot where Willie Nelson came to fame, and you’re likely to find a cross section of Austinites here two-steppin’ and boot-scootin’ around the dance floor to the music of Don Walser or the Geezinslaws, or even sometimes Jerry Jeff Walker.

  • Location: 3201 S. Lamar Blvd., Austin (South)

DALLAS NIGHTCLUB

They say they’re “a two-step above the rest.” For a quarter of a century, this nightclub has featured country and contemporary tunes; they're known for the huge dance floor and extensive sound and light system.

  • Location: 7113 Burnet Rd., Austin (North)

DONN’S DEPOT

Styled like an old railroad depot, Donn’s is a favorite with Austinites looking for the 6th Street atmosphere without the parking hassles found in the busy entertainment district. The saloon includes a live band and dancing nightly featuring Fifties tunes, country, and easy listening.

  • Location: 1600 West 5th St., Austin (Downtown)
