Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve, Austin

Ecotourist and active travelers will love this wild park located right on the edge of developed Austin. These 227 acres of beautiful Hill Country were set aside in the mid-1970s to preserve the land through active management, nature education, and research.

Operated with the help of trained volunteers, about 4 miles of trails pass through woodland, grassland, and streamside habitats. Wild Basin is home to some threatened and endangered species of plants, animals, and protected birds such as the golden-cheeked warbler and the black-capped vireo. Open daily from sunrise to sunset.

The park offers educational programs such as moonlight and starlight tours.

Location: 805 North Capital of Texas Highway in Southwest Austin
