Austin Parks

Austin is known as one of the country's leading innovators when it comes to environmental issues. Both visitors and residents take advantage of the typical 300 beautiful days a year here by enjoying the outdoors.

Austin's parks are classified according to function, size, and service area. Major park types range from small to large and include neighborhood parks, district parks, metropolitan parks, greenbelts, and miles of hike and bike trails.

Metropolitan parks, which often include a major water feature, offer both the largest and most diversified recreational opportunities. Not only do they serve the city population, in some cases they are tourist attractions. Often more than 200 acres in size, they are also usually located on major roadways. Large parking areas make them easy to enjoy, public transportation serves these areas, and true to Austin's image as an outdoor health-conscious community, access by bicycle or foot by way of hike and bike paths is positively encouraged.
