Katz's Deli & Bar, Austin

“We never klose” is the boast of this restaurant, open 24 hours a day. This is where Austinites have been getting their kosher-style deli fix since 1979 when Katz’s introduced bagel and deli to the Texas vocabulary.

Bagels range from toasted with butter to the legendary cream cheese–slathered roll, thick with lox and green lettuce . Chicken soup comes with both noodles and matzoh balls, and homemade blintzes come in a choice of cheese, apple, or blueberry. We especially like the Reuben sandwiches...but save room for a slice of New York cheesecake.

Location: 618 W. 6th St., Austin

Part of town: downtown Austin

Telephone:512-472-2037

Hours: open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily
