Old Pecan Street Cafe, Austin

The restaurant is easy to spot; the windows are shaded by bright blue awnings. The fare here is American with plenty of steak offerings as well as a sprinkling of Southwestern dishes. The Old Pecan Street Chicken is a specialty of the house, stuffed with pecan pesto, although we've found the steaks excellent as well. Be sure to save room for the dessert: pecan pie, natch.

This cafe is housed in an historic building, the Platt-Simpson, which in 1871 was part of a livery stable, later transforming into a hardware store. Inside there are original stone walls and wooden floors; outside on the red brick wall is a plaque telling the building’s history.
