UT Sports

The University of Texas is the closest Austin gets to professional league sports in most fields, and their play is followed closely by fans of the Burnt Orange throughout the city. The Longhorns football team draws huge crowds to Austin with every home game at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, formerly Memorial Stadium. On home game weekends, plan for downtown (and sometimes surrounding) hotels to be booked and the city noticeably more crowded.

During the winter months, both the Lady Longhorns women’s and the Runnin’ Horns men’s basketball teams play at the Frank Erwin Center, the round venue located just off I-35 is also used for Austin’s largest indoor concerts.

The women’s UT volleyball team also serves up a rousing game during the winter months usually at the UT Recreation Sports Center followed in the spring by UT baseball at Disch-Falk Field just east of I-35.
