Fuschak's Pit Bar-B-Q, San Marcos

This sit-down restaurant, located on the east side of I-35, takes the best Texas cuisines -- Tex-Mex and barbecue -- and combines them into one. The Bar-Burrito, one of the best bargains on the menu, is also one of the most popular items. It starts with a flour tortilla filled with refried beans, cheddar cheese, and hot sauce, then on comes beef brisket and barbecue sauce for a true Texas meal.

Fuschak's also does a barbecue twist on another Tex-Mex favorite: the fajita. The San Marcos version presents fajita meat, barbecue sauce, hot sauce, and guacamole rolled in a tortilla.

There are plenty of traditional dishes, too. Brisket, sausage, pork ribs, and chicken are served with a choice of country-style french fries, tangy mustard-spiced potato salad, coleslaw, beans, and banana pudding.

Diners can enjoy a large dining room, decorated with antique farm implements, a large fireplace, and even a photo of Earl Campbell during his Longhorn football days. For those on the move, there's drive-through service and walk-in take out service.

Location: 920 Hwy. 80, San Marcos
