Fort Davis, Texas Travel Guide

The community of Fort Davis is one of the gateways to the Big Bend region. The community began as a US Army post in the mid-1800s, located at the intersection of two important mail routes.

The community is located in the Davis Mountains, which provide a respite from the heat of the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert and make Fort Davis a favorite destination any time of year.

Attractions:

Fort Davis National Historic Site. Located at the site of the fort built to protect the 600-mile-long San Antonio-El Paso Road, Ft. Davis is considered one of the Southwest's best examples of a frontier military post.

University of Texas McDonald Observatory. This obersvatory is considered one of the world's best astronomy research facilitiies.
