The "big spring" from which the city got its name first attracted settlers in 1849; those clear waters today beautify City Park.

Attractions

Big Spring State Park. Available for day use only, this park is home to a prairie dog town, a playground, and some nature trails.

Comanche Trail Amphitheater. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s from limestone quarried at Big Spring State Park, this outdoor theater seats nearly 7000 and hosts concerts and theatrical productions.

Lake Colorado City State Park. This park has cottages and camp sites plus plenty of boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities.
