Located on the northeast corner of the square, Muster Oak in La Grange is one of the most famous trees in Texas. Here in 1842, Captain Dawson mustered his troops for an ill-fated battle in the war for Texas independence. Since that time, the tree has served as a muster site for Fayette County troops in conflicts ever since.
