San Antonio's Aztec Theater Converting to Live Theater

We reported a few weeks ago that San Antonio's Aztec Theater, the wonderful historic theater that was renovated just a few years ago and sports an incredible Aztec motif, had closed for a few weeks; now we've learned why. The theater, which was showing big screen movies, is converting to a Branson-style theater with live performances.

Located next to the Watermark Hotel and Spa, the Aztec will be closed until it reopens as the live music venue (presently the shops on the lower level remain open). When it reopens its doors, the
San Antonio Express-News is reporting that the theater will feature a country music tribute show called "San Antonio Rose."

Plans call for the theater to reopen early this summer.
