An Austin eatery invites those with a hunger to help others to sandwich a happening with a lot of heart into their hectic holiday schedule. On Thanksgiving Day you can join a throng 20,000 strong who will pick up their feet before picking up their forks for a feast as the ThunderCloud Subs 24th annual Turkey Trot gets underway.
Taking place at the Long Center for the performing Arts, participants will lace up their sneakers for the start of the largest 5-mile in the state, while strollers will take their mark for a 1-mile walk and little ones will get ready to race for first place in the Stepping Stone School Kids K.
Pounding the pavement for a higher purpose, one hundred per cent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Caritas of Austin, a nonprofit dedicated to helping Austinites in need move out of poverty toward self-sufficiency. Since the start of the Turkey Trot in 1991, ThunderCloud has raised more than $2.1 million for the charitable organization.
For those who want to help raise funds without having to raise their heart rate, there’s the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Raffle. Prizes include a new Honda Accord EX-L, donated by First Texas Honda, and six gift packages from Mellow Johnny’s. Tickets, which are $25 each or four for $75, are available online at www.thundercloud.com or through an authorized employee or agent of Caritas of Austin at the organization’s headquarters, located by 611 Neches Street. Tickets will also be on sale during onsite registration and picket pick-up at the Turkey Trot. As with the race, all of the proceeds from the raffle will benefit Caritas of Austin.
