"Salado Legends" Celebrates 17th Season

The stage at Tablerock's Goodnight Amphitheater is set for a musical memory of life in the Lone Star state at the turn of the 20th century as the curtain rises once again on
Salado Legends, which is celebrating its 17th season. Honored by the Library of Congress as one of only four outdoor musical dramas in the nation chosen to depict America's diverse cultural heritage, more than 150 actors, crew and composers band together to bring the past to life for three performances, held July 18, 25, and August 1. Audience members may even find a few faces familiar, as Dallas actor Jerry Biggs, who has appeared in Lonesome Dove and Tender Mercies, and Channel 9 Chief Meteorologist Andy Anderson from Chilton step into cameo roles.
For those who wish to dine before delving into yesterday, a catered meal will be served t 7:15 p.m., one hour before show time. Reservations, running at $8 for either adult or child, are required for the repast.

3-Day Passes for Austin City Limits Festival Available Through Austin CVB Site

The Live Music Capital of the World will welcome an array of recording artists for the 8th annual Austin City Limits Festival this fall, and in celebration the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau is currently offering music lovers specially-priced passes ($165 each) to the October event.
This Austin CVB Festival Travel Package not only offers three-day entry to one of the city's most-anticipated musical extravaganzas, but also a minimum of two-nights accommodation at one of more than 15 Austin hotels. A hotel room must be booked in order to receive the discount tickets-- you must enter your ACVB hotel reservation confirmation number when purchasing tickets. A four ticket maximum per person/address/credit card is enforced. (As three-day general admission passes purchased through the festival web site have already sold out, no doubt the CVB Festival Travel Package passes will soon be snatched up.)

Texas Blueberry Festival Celebrates 20th Year
Fats Domino found his thrill on Blueberry Hill, and you can find a thrilling way to spend the day at the 20th annual Texas Blueberry Festival in downtown Nacogdoches. From classic cars to pie-eating contests, the good, old-fashioned family fun is Americana at its finest. New to the event this year is Cowboy Max, a comedic cowpoke who will wow the crowd with his trick roping skills, and Cookin' Up the Blues, where local celebrity chefs compete to be considered the "berry" best.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park Celebrates 75th Anniversary

As the nation prepares to celebrate its 233rd year of independence this 4th of July weekend, one of America's most beloved landmarks will also mark a milestone. Deemed the "Grand Canyon of Texas, " the Panhandle paradise of Palo Duro Canyon State Park is commemorating its 75th anniversary with free admission and an array of activities.
A profusion of pyrotechnics over the Pioneer Amphitheater will dot the sky red, white and blue on July 4th after a musical salute to the Lone Star state, "Texas." The same stage will rock with guitar riffs when Boz Scaggs performs on July 5th.
If you've got a hankering for some down home food, Amarillo eatery The Big Texan will serve up samples of their cuisine before both the musical extravaganza and the concert. The steak dinner costs $16.95 for adults and $12.70 for each child. Tickets to "Texas" are available, ranging from $9.95 to $29.95, while tickets for dinner and the Boz Scaggs concert run from $50 to $100. Although not required, it is recommended that attendees buy their tickets in advance.

"Take A Hike" at a State Park During National Trails Day

June 6th is National Trails Day, and what better way to celebrate than by enjoying the scenic beauty at one of the nine state parks participating in the American Hiking Society-sponsored event. Happy trails to you!
• Promenade among the pines can call Bastrop State Park home during a guided hike along a portion of the more than 10 miles of trails that dot the area. A trail work party is scheduled to take place, and walkers can wonder at a section of Gotier Pace, a trail once trodden on by settlers of the Texas frontier.
• Alligators and birds will peer back at the binocular-carrying sightseers at Brazos Bend State Park in Needville (southwest of Houston) as they file through the bottomland forests on guided trail hikes scheduled between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
• Skim along the surface of the lake that snakes through Caddo Lake State Park in a guided canoe tour, traverse the site's trails or sign up for a workshop.
• Novices of nature walks can sign up for "Hiking 101- Discover Hiking!," which will take place at 8:30 p.m. in the amphitheater at Daingerfield State Park in east Texas.
• Take a sunset stroll along Tom Mays Trail at El Paso's Franklin Mountains State Park, America's largest urban wilderness area. Interested parties must reserve a place for the promenade at least one day in advance.
• Witness the sun's ascent and descent during morning and evening hiking tours along Lake Texana State Park in Edna.
• Three miles of woodland trails are a welcome sight for walkers at Mother Neff State Park near the small town of Moody. Hikes are scheduled between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
• See haunting images of an ancient world as you walk toward the pictographs decorating Flat Bell Shelter at Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site near Comstock.
• Guided treks will take place at 10 a.m. (a one-hour ranger-led walk), noon (a 1.5 hour hike) and 2 p.m. (a 2.5 hour journey) at Stephen F. Austin State Park near Sealy.
