POTD: Smitty's Market, Lockhart

The smoky hallway leading to the pit at Smitty's Market is a clue to the years of barbecue tradition this building has witnessed. Although the name of Smitty's Market may be new to some Texas travelers, this was the home of Kreuz Market for over half a century. In 1999, Nina Schmidt Sells took over the market her father had long run, changed the name, but kept the smoky goodness for which the market is known. Nina's brother took the Kreuz name and opened a new barbecue eatery also in Lockhart.
