UK Michelin Star Chef Opening Restaurant in Lake Conroe

Foodies will be rejoicing: Lake Conroe's new La Torretta Del Lago Resort & Spa has reached an agreement with one of the world’s most acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs to create a signature, fine-dining restaurant on the grounds of the Lake Conroe retreat.

Chef Albert Roux (with his brother named the most influential chefs in the United Kingdom) will create Chez Roux as the premiere dining venue among the more than 10 restaurants and cafes that will operate at the Lake Conroe resort. Roux's London restaurant became the first ever in the United Kingdom to hold three stars by the Michelin Guide.

Chez Roux will be a free-standing facility located on the lake shore; construction will begin soon. The chef promises a contemporary French menu with heavy emphasis on local and fresh products to give it a hint of Texas flavor. The restaurant plans to open by year’s end.

31608: Celebrate Spring with Tyler's Azalea Trail

Spring has sprung across most of Texas and East Texas is celebrating with the annual Azalea Trail, running through April 6. While you might associate Tyler more with roses, the city also hosts a three-week azalea trail that features the colorful blooms as well as plenty of other activities, from Victorian teas to candlelight strolls. We've just added a new festivals piece covering Tyler's Azalea Trail.

Hungry for BBQ?

A couple of weeks ago, a TexasTripper reader named Ron shared a review of his favorite barbecue joint: the New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Huntsville. It appears in our Roaming Readers section and just reading about this church barbecue, with its big, smoky pit, made us hungry. It was already on our list of must-visits when then we ran across this video from one of our favorite travel shows, Texas Country Reporter:

That settles it...tonight's dinner must be barbecue...

Do you have a favorite barbecue joint in Texas you'd like to share with TexasTripper readers? Send us your review and a photo, if you have it; we'd love to include it on the site!

POTD: Caddo Lake

The beauty of East Texas bayou country really shines at Caddo Lake, the only natural lake in the state of Texas (until it was artifically dammed for more control in the early 1900s). You'll find steamboat tours on the lake, plenty of fishing, and places for quiet reflection.
