Bonham, Texas Travel Guide
Region: Prairies and Lakes

This North Texas community just south of the Red River is set in fertile Blackland Prairie. The town is best known as the home of the late Sam Rayburn, speaker of the US House of Representatives. The hometown hero is remembered at his former home and a library copied from his US Capitol office.

Attractions

Bonham State Park. Camping, fishing, swimming, and boating are all available here. The park also offers miniature golf, a playground, and pedal boat rentals. Located 1/2 mile southeast of Bonham via Route 78 and FM 271.

Fort Inglish Village. This village contains a replica of a log blockhouse and a stockade built in 1837 that became the first building of the city of Bonham. There are also three original cabins on the site. Located a 1/2 mile west of Bonham on Rte. 56.

Sam Rayburn Library and Museum. This library includes a replica of Rayburn's U.S. Capitol office and memorabilia from his long term in office---which was the longest of any Speaker of the House in history. Located at 800 W. Sam Rayburn Drive 1/2 mile west of Bonham on U.S. 82.
