Bryan/College Station, Texas Travel Guide

Home of Texas A & M University, these combined communities include several attractions to interest travelers.

Bryan was chartered in 1855, located in the area where Stephen F. Austin's original colonist first settled this region. Agriculturally rich, the city still has an emphasis on farming thanks to Texas A&M University, the first public institution of higher learning in Texas. The college is well-known for its agricultural, veterinary, and engineering programs as well as its military Cadet Corps.

Attractions:

Messina Hof Wine Cellars and Vineyards. 4545 Old Reliance Rd. One of Texas's most celebrated wineries offers free tours and tastings by reservation. Started in 1983, the winery includes 45 acres of vineyards and demonstrates the wine-making skills of the Messina, Italy and Hof, Germany regions.

Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History. 3232 Briarcrest Dr. Bring the whole family to this collection of natural history with exhibits on life in the Brazos Valley over 12,000 years ago.

George Bush Presidential Library Center. West George Bush Dr., College Station. This presidential library, dedicated in 1997, includes exhibits on the Bush presidency as well as research materials in the library center.

Texas A&M University. Several sites at this large college are of interest to visitors:

Floral Test Garden. Houston and Jersey Streets. Stroll among hundreds of varieties of flowers planted and studied by university students.

Sam Houston Sanders Corps of Cadets Center. Learn more about the Corps of Cadets through displays that trace the graduates service in both World Wars, Korea, Vietnam, and more recent conflicts.
