Canyon Lake, Texas Travel Guide

Think of Canyon Lake and you might just think of summer fun on the lake…but the good times at this lakeside community don’t end with the with cool weather. The community nicknamed “the water recreation capital of Texas” continues the festive spirit year around with everything from bird watching to lakeside strolls.

Attractions

Guadalupe Park River Trail. Outdoor lovers enjoy the new Guadalupe Park River Trail, located just below Canyon Dam. The trail, (a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of engineers and the Texas Master Naturalists, Lindheimer Chapter) includes identification on trees and grasses and has plenty of opportunities for birding as well as trout fishing.

Heritage Museum of the Hill Country. This museum traces the earliest residents of the Hill Country--both the Native Americans and the pioneers--as well as the dinosaurs which once roamed the area. The site is home to many dinosaur tracks that can be viewed. Open afternoons only. Located east of Canyon Lake on FM 2673.

Special Events & Festivals

Many of the community’s special events take place during this season, starting with the Annual Veteran's Day Dinner and Dance and continuing to the Parade of Lights on Canyon Lake. A family favorite is the North Pole Village, scheduled annually for the second and third Thursday, Friday and Saturday in December. A child-sized village is home to the North Pole Library, a petting barn, outdoor nativity, and more.
