Region: Panhandle Plains

Named for the author of the Texas Declaration of Independence, this small town is primarily an agricultural center. Established in 1876, the city is now known for its production of cotton, wheat, peanuts, and cattle.

Attractions

Childress County Heritage Museum. Local history exhibits housed in former post office. Displays include local industries such as cotton, cattle and railroading, as well as Native American artifacts. Location: 210 3rd St. NW.
