World of Discovery, Corpus Christi
This downtown museum offers displays to fascinate all ages, covering everything from dinosaurs to Spanish shipwrecks. Don't miss the "Seeds of Change" exhibit, designed by the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, designed by the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History for the 500th anniversary of the European discovery of America, explores the story of the early explorers and the effects their arrival had on the New World. Changes such as the introduction of the horse from Europe to the New World, the importation of corn and potatoes back from the New World, and disease that was inadvertently introduced to the New World by the explorers are covered by the exhibit. After a look at exhibits that tell the story of these explorers and the effects their arrival had on the New World, see for yourself what it was like to make the Atlantic crossing aboard the Niña, Pinta, and Santa Maria. Life-size replicas of these Spanish ships are located in a shipyard repair facility adjacent to the museum. These ships were constructed by the Spanish government to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the explorer's voyage. Location: 1900 N. Chaparral St. Return to Corpus Christi Index |
