Crockett, Texas Travel Guide

This historic town in East Texas was named for Davy Crockett, who was believed to have camped at local springs on his way to the fateful battle at the Alamo. The city serves at the county seat for Houston County, which became the first county with the founding of the Republic of Texas. Today Crockett is an agricultural-based community.

Attractions

Crockett Museum and Visitors Center. This museum, housed in an old railroad depot, contains local history exhibits and displays focusing on the Republic of Texas. Open Wednesday afternoons from 2-4.

Davy Crockett Memorial Park. This city park is named for the frontier hero who died defending the Alamo. Here you'll find playgrounds, tennis, and picnic areas. Located on South Fifth Street at Anson Jones Boulevard.

Davy Crockett Spring. Legend has it that Davy Crockett camped at this site on his way to the battle of the Alamo. It's near the town square and identified by an historical market. Located on East Houston Street.

Mission Tejas State Historical Park. This park, located between the towns of Crockett and Alton, recalls the first Spanish mission built in East Texas in 1690. Today the park offers camping, picnic spots, and hiking.
