This city 20 miles north of downtown Dallas dates back to 1845, although two fires in the early years destroyed most of the original buildings.

Today the downtown contains historic buildings dating back to the turn of the century and has undergone a renovation, adding brick streets and a period atmosphere. Visitors will find many antiques shops and galleries in the downtown region. Always thriving as a bedroom community for Dallas employees, Plano's population has more than doubled in the past decade.

Attractions:

Heritage Farmstead Museum. Once the site of a working farm, this museum offers a look at turn of the 20th century rural life. Located at 1900 W. 15th Street at Custer road.

Southfork Ranch. J.R. and Miss Ellie may be gone and Dallas may be nothing more than a syndicated rerun now, but the Ewing presence lives on at Southfork Ranch, six miles outside Plano. This home was the location for the series' exterior shots and today offers tours, a restaurant, conference center, and rodeo arena.

Don't Miss:

Plano Balloon Festival. This September event brings in over 100 hot air balloons to Plano for a three-day event that attracts over 300,000 visitors.
