Piedras Negras, Mexico
Dedicated shoppers won't want to miss the chance to head
across the border from Eagle Pass to the sister city of Piedras Negras.
Home to over 260,000 residents, this bustling city is a quick hop over
the border, whether for a weekend of fun or an evening meal. For traditional Mexican handicrafts, everything from silver
to serapes to sandals, visit the shops along Zaragoza Market Square. Don't
forget to barter for the best prices and the most fun! If you'd like to make Piedras Negras your home base, it's easy thanks to properties like the Motel California and numerous restaurants. A meal here isn't just a chance to replenish after a day of sightseeing and shopping--it's an historical experience as well. Piedras Negras claims that it is the birthplace of the
nacho. The invention is so revered here it's even celebrated with its
own two-day festival, Festival del Nacho, filled with entertainment and
plenty of the festival's namesake as well. The festival is scheduled for
mid-October. Piedras Negras also makes an excellent starting point for
further exploration into Mexico, so much so that it's often nicknamed
La Puerta de Mexico or Mexico's Door. For More Information For more about a Piedras Negras getaway, contact the Piedras Negras Convention and Visitors Bureau at 888-334-4751 or see www.proturac.com. Back to Eagle Pass Index
