Tyler, Texas Travel Guide
This community is a popular getaway from Dallas, just 90 miles west, and noted for its spectacular roses. Tyler is considered the rose capital of the world and exports the fragrant product across the county. The city also hosts the long-running Texas Rose Festival. The city is also known as a gateway to East Texas and is a popular destination in fall months for its autumnal color. The city is home to the University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler Junior College, and Texas College. Attractions: Caldwell Zoo. Exotic species, as well as a native Texas animal display, are the focus of this zoo, which sprawls across 35 acres. Gentry Pkwy. and M.L. King Blvd., northwest part of town. Goodman-LeGrand Home. This 1859 mansion is now home to the local history museum. On display are exhibits on the city's founding and early days. 624 N. Broadway. Hudnall Planetarium. One of the largest planetariums in the state, this site also features replicas of exploratory space vehicles. S. Mahon, on Tyler Junior College campus, 2 miles southeast off Rte. 64.
Tyler State Park. Here in the East Texas woods you'll find camping, a nature trail, fishing, swimming, and boating. There are also areas for picnicking.
