Elgin, Texas Travel Guide

Region: Prairies & Lakes

Above: Southside Market

This small town located east of Austin on US 290 enjoys star status because of Elgin sausage, a spicy concoction that's sold throughout this part of the state. And for those of you a little uncertain about the pronunciation, it's el-gin, not el-jin. [pronunciation audio]

Thanks to its close proximity to Austin, Elgin has also had a role in many Hollywood films including Billy Bob Thornton's Friday Night Lights, as well as Varsity Blues, The Alamo (the 2003 version), Great Waldo Pepper, Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
