Garden (2220 Barton Springs Road) in Austin.
Since 1957 this capital city celebration of
floral finery has been a perennial favorite with Central Texans.
Following are a few of the activities that take place during this
two-day floral fete.
Events: Blossoms
swaying the the breeze seem to dance along with the potpourri of
classical, bluegrass and conjunto tunes performed on stage in the
Rose Garden as those with a green thumb gather beneath a tent at
the Garden Center for planting tips from both Austin-area and national
experts. Botanical beauties vie for prizes in a number of divisions
at the Zilker Garden Festival Standard Flower Show, and a raffle
drawing rounds out the festivities.
Shopping: Gardening enthusiasts
can peruse for purchases among over 100 booths filled with floral-inspired
items. Along with plants and gardening implements, vendors also
offer framed artworks, crafts and jewelry.
Children's Activities: A child's budding interest in the great outdoors can blossom at
Kid's Corner, where little sprouts can construct a delicate pair
of butterfly wings or build a bird house or bird feeder for garden
songbirds. A free plant for each child will nurture a love for horticulture
that will last a lifetime.
