Zilker Garden Festival
Austin, Texas

When: late March/early April

Where: Zilker Botanical Garden (2220 Barton Springs Road) in Austin.

Since 1957 this capital city celebration of floral finery has been a perennial favorite with Central Texans. Following are a few of the activities that take place during this two-day floral fete.

Events: Blossoms swaying the the breeze seem to dance along with the potpourri of classical, bluegrass and conjunto tunes performed on stage in the Rose Garden as those with a green thumb gather beneath a tent at the Garden Center for planting tips from both Austin-area and national experts. Botanical beauties vie for prizes in a number of divisions at the Zilker Garden Festival Standard Flower Show, and a raffle drawing rounds out the festivities.

Shopping: Gardening enthusiasts can peruse for purchases among over 100 booths filled with floral-inspired items. Along with plants and gardening implements, vendors also offer framed artworks, crafts and jewelry.

Children's Activities: A child's budding interest in the great outdoors can blossom at Kid's Corner, where little sprouts can construct a delicate pair of butterfly wings or build a bird house or bird feeder for garden songbirds. A free plant for each child will nurture a love for horticulture that will last a lifetime.
