Fayette County Fair When: late August, early September Where: Fayette County Fairgrounds on Highway 77 in La Grange. Since 1927 Fayette County citizens have said so long
to summer with a fair that's a true Texas treasure. Attractions: Wile 4-H
and FFA members demonstrate their agricultural aptitude at the livestock
show, festival-goers can take shelter from the summer sun as they
enjoy the botanical beauty on display at the flower and plant house
or check out the craftwork of community members at the creative
arts exhibits. Shoppers can also find a Texas-themed souvenir of
their stay in La Grange at the Commercial Exhibits Hall. Competitions: Potential
Freds and Gingers can show off their fancy footwork in the dance
contest, held in the German-Czech Mart, while a showdown between
horseshoe and water pitching contestants takes place in an area
behind the Mart. The Men's Softball Fall Classic hits a home run
with sports fans, while folks who enjoy the reality series "America's
Got Talent" have their chance to shine in the spotlight as
they take the stage for the local talent contest, which offers prizes
in youth, junior teen and senior divisions. Foodies will get fired
up over the BBQ Cook-off competition at the Fair Pavilion, and the
savor smells of chicken, pork butt and beef brisket will surely
tempt the taste buds of attendees, who can curb their cravings with
tried and true festival fare like corn dogs, funnel cakes, fajitas
and pizza, sold by the fair's many food vendors. Entertainment: Folks can
grab a cold brew, kick back and enjoy a roster of country and Tejano
acts on the main stage at at the German-Czech Mart. Children's Activities: Children can cuddle cute critters at the Texan petting zoo, giggle
at the antics of a red-nosed clown, or be the star of the show in
the youth (0 - 7 years) or Junior (6 - 12 years old) divisions of
the local talent show. The happy sounds of merry-go-round music
beckons little ones to climb aboard a carousel horse, just one of
the slower rides to be found at the carnival and midway. Spinning
teacups, bumper cars and a Ferris wheel that reaches almost 100
feet in the air are just a few of the attractions that will bring
a smile to both the young and the young at heart. For more information: visit www.fayettecountyfair.org |
