oysterOysterfest
Fulton, Texas

When: early March

Where: Activities are set up along the waterfront in Fulton, Texas.

Each year the Gulf Coast community of Fulton is transformed into a waterfront wonderland for an ode to the oyster which has been a hallmark of the town for almost three decades. From a vantage point atop a carousel, visitors can get a gull's eye view not only of the shrimp boats that call Fulton Harbour home, but also of the carnival atmosphere down below as a crowd of 30,000 enjoy four days of festivities which include a parade, rides, food vendors and a roster of musical acts.

Whether strolling past booths filled with arts and crafts items in search of a lasting souvenir, or joining in on the fun as you try to see how many mouthwatering mollusks can down in one of the many oyster-eating contests or how many oysters you can shuck in a five-minute span, everyone attending this seafood extravaganza will discover a family-friendly festival that is as precious as any pearl.

Accommodations: The Best Western Inn By the Bay (3902 Hwy 35 North) offers the convenience of a large hotel chain, while those looking for an intimate inn experience can book a room at the Pelican Bay Resort (4206 N. Hwy 35 at Pelican Bay Lane), where poolside mini-suites and cozy cottages provide all the comforts of home.

Enjoy a stay in style at The Inn at Fulton Harbor (215 North Fulton Beach Road), where patrons can indulge themselves at the venue's spa or tropical pool, or watch the rippling waters of Aransas Bay from the screened in front porch of a private bungalow at Fulton Beach Bungalows (130 Prairie Road at Fulton Beach Road).
