Garden festivals are in full bloom this month...and don't miss the bluebonnets!
2008 Festival Dates: • always doublecheck festival dates when planning your trip! Continuing through April 6, 2008: Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo, Conroe Continuing through April 6, 2008: Azalea and Spring Flower Trail, Tyler. Miles of trails bloom with azaleas as well as dogwoods and other blooms. Continuing through April 13, 2008. Dallas Blooms. Celebrate Spring with this event at the Dallas Arboretum featuring over 400,000 bulbs. Continuing through April 20, 2008: Four Winds Renaissance Faire, Whitehouse (near Tyler) April 4-6, 2008 (continued from March weekends): Day Out With Thomas, Grapevine. A must for families, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad transforms into Thomas the Tank Engine for this special event which features storytelling, video viewing, live music, arts and crafts and more. April 5, 2008: Urban Music Festival, Austin. The Urban Music Festival offers both an aural homage to African-American music legends and a launching pad for future funk, hip hop and R&B chart-toppers. April 5, 2008: Onion Fest, Weslaco. An annual, one-day ode to the 1015 sweet onion makes for a sweet treat for the 26,935 residents of this Hidalgo County town. April 5, 2008 (continued from March weekends): Tyler County Dogwood Festival, Woodville. The dogwood blooms take center stage here, joined by three weekends of special activities including an art festival on the first weekend, Western weekend on the second, and Queen weekend on the third. April 5-6, 2008 (continued from March weekends): Texas Dogwood Trails Celebrations, Palestine. Palestine celebrates the blooming of the dogwood with parades, arts and crafts, a bike race, live music, and more. April 5-May 26, 2008: Scarborough Faire® Renaissance Faire, Waxahachie, Waxahachie. Step back to the 16th century at this popular Ren festival including jousting, period music, crafts, falconry and more. April 11-13, 2008: Poteet Strawberry Festival. The Poteet Strawberry Festival preserves a half-century tradition celebrating the annual harvest of the South Texas strawberry crop with music, dances, and plenty of homegrown fun. April 11-13, 2008: Bluebonnet Festival, Burnet. Burnet, deemed the "Bluebonnet Capital of Texas," holds a three-day floral festival featuring fun for the whole family. April 12-13, 2008: Bluebonnet Festival, Chappell Hill. Celebrate the state flower blooms at this event which includes arts and crafts, food booths, and more. April 17-20, 2008: Old Settler's Music Festival, Driftwood (near Austin). This multi-day jamboree includes children's events, free music workshops, crafts, and more, all at Camp Ben McCulloch. April 18-20, 2008: Riofest, Harlingen. This family-friendly event includes live music, fine arts, a children's crafts area, and more. April 18-20, 2008: Texas SandFest, Port Aransas. Over 100,000 onlookers come to view these creations made in the sand. April 18-20, 2008: Dallas International Guitar Festival & Musicfest Now in its 31st year, this event includes a show as well as concerts. April 18-20, 2008: Dayton Ole Tyme Festival. Now in its 16th year, this event includes a barbecue cookoff, junior chili championship, carnival, car show, and more. April 18-27, 2008: Fiesta San Antonio. San Antonio's biggest party includes parades, parties, and 10 days of fun. April 19-20, 2008: Austin Reggae Festival, Austin. Since 1993, reggae lovers have flocked to The Live Music Capital of the World to move to the groove of Rastafarian rhythms at the biggest celebration of third world music in Central Texas. April 19-20, 26-27, 2008: Houston International Festival. This year showcasing Out of Africa, this event features world music, crafts, foods, and more. April 23-May 4, 2008: Buc Days, Corpus Christi. Now in its 70th year, this event includes parades, carnivals, a rodeo, barbecue cookoff, live music, a 5K run, and spectacular fireworks on the bay. April 24-27, 2008: Texas State Championship Fiddlers Frolic, Hallettsville. This event dates back to 1971 and draws fiddlers from around the world. April 25-27, 2008: Denton Arts & Jazz Festival Held in Denton's Quakertown Park, this free event features six stages as well as children's events. April 25-27, 2008: Germanfest, Muenster. The north Texas town of Muenster greets 35,000 visitors each final weekend in April for a three-day homage to German heritage. April 26, 2008: Yesterfest, Bastrop.
