August Festivals in Texas

Austin celebrates its bat residents with an annual festival along Lady Bird Lake.

August means summer--and summer heat--are in full swing so it's not surprising one of the top festivals is the Hotter 'n Hell Bicycle Race!

continued through Aug. 3, 2008: 70th Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament, South Padre Island. This five-day event draws anglers to compete in bay, offshore and tarpon categories.

Aug. 9, 2008: Austin Ice Cream Festival

Aug. 15-23, 2008: North Texas State Fair and Rodeo, Denton

Aug. 16, 2008: 6th Annual Guadalupe River Parade, Kerrville. Texas Country Reporter's Bob Phillips will be the grand marshall of what is expected to be the biggest parade yet. Aug. 21-24, 2008: Gillespie County Fair, Fredericksburg. Held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds, this annual event features the largest parade in the region as well as horse racing, livestock shows, crafts, and more.

August 21 - Oct. 12, 2008: 87th Annual National Watercolor Society Traveling Exhibition, Kerrville. A collection of works from the 2007 National Exhibition showcasing the world's most highly respected artists. Kerr Arts & Cultural Center will be the only Texas venue to host this exhibit. Open Tuesday-Saturday 10am-4pm, Sunday 1-4pm at Kerr Arts & Cultural Center, 228 Earl Garrett. Kerrville. 830.895.2911.

Aug. 23, 2008: Hotter 'n Hell Hundred, Wichita Falls. This bike race is one of the largest in the country.

Aug. 25, 2008: Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival , Austin

Aug. 28-31, 2008: Central Texas State Fair, Belton

Aug. 28-31, 2008: Fayette County Fair, La Grange

Aug. 29-31, 2008: Kerrville Wine and Music Festival. This festival celebrates national songwriters and Texas wineries.

Aug. 30, 2008: Harper Frontier Days, Harper

Aug. 30, 2008: World Championship Barbecue Goat Cook-Off, Brady. Now in its 35th year, this popular cookoff features cabrito.

Aug. 30-31, 2008: Batfest, Austin
