July Festivals in Texas
July means Independence Day celebrations across the state. 2008 Festival Dates: • always doublecheck festival dates when planning your trip! July 4, 2008: Freedom Fiesta and July 4th Parade, Seguin. This parade is considered the biggest small town 4th of July parade in the state! July 4, 2008: Red, Hot and Blue Festival and Fireworks Extravaganza, The Woodlands July 4, 2008: Belton 4th of July Celebration and PRCA July 7-13, 2008: Spring Ho Festival, Lampasas. This busy festival has a whole menu of activities: the Spring Ho Beauty Pageant,a County Fair, the Spring Ho Carnival, a dance Contest, a crafts fair, a barbecue cookoff and a lot more! July 11-13, 2008: Great Texas Balloon Race, Longview. This East Texas festival helped Longview earn the title "The Balloon Capital of Texas." The fun starts Friday morning with flights over the city and balloon glows on Friday and Saturday night provide beautiful photo opportunities. July 12, 2008: 60th Annual McDade Watermelon Festival, McDade. The festival kicks off with a parade at 10:30am in this community located in northern Bastrop County. July 12, 2008: Parker County Peach Festival, Weatherford. Held on the courthouse square, this annual event celebrates Parker County's tasty peaches. Look for over 200 arts and crafts vendors, live music, and lots of peaches in the form of everything from peach ice cream to peach cobbler. (888) 594-3801 July 13, 2008: Second Sunday Summer Serenade, Kerrville. A free concert in the park featuring the Sentimental Journey Orchestra. Bring your picnic, blankets or chair and enjoy a concert along the banks of the Guadalupe River. Scheduled for 7:30pm. Held at the Louise Hays Park, off Thompson Drive. (830) 895-2265. July 13, 2008: Chicken and Polka Fest, Sweet Home. Tiny Sweet Home, located in Lavaca County, celebrates with barbecued chicken at lunch followed by five hours of dance music. July 16-Aug. 10, 2008: Shakespeare at Winedale, Winedale. This year marks the 38th season of this popular summer event. This summer's plays include 'Romeo and Juliet,' 'The Merchant of Venice,' and 'Antony and Cleopatra.' July 17-19, 2008: Bryan Breakfast Lions Club 38th PRCA Rodeo. Held at the Brazos County Expo Arena, this rodeo is a longtime favorite. July 18-19, 2008: 67th Annual Comanche Open Rodeo. The fun starts with a morning parade before the action turns to the rodeo grounds. July 18-19, 2008: 59th Annual Taylor Rodeo, Taylor. Held at the East Williamson County Events Center, this two-day event features plenty of western fun. July 18 - August 17, 2008: Messina Hof's Harvest Celebration, Bryan. July 18-19, 2008: 3rd Annual Bayou BBQ Cook-Off, Jefferson. July 19, 2008: 24th Annual Tour de Paris Bicycle Rally, Paris. OK, you might not make it to Europe for the big bicycle race, but this one has plenty of excitement and a route through downtown Paris. July 19, 2008: Los Cazadores North American Carne Guisada Cook-Off Championship, Pearsall. Ten teams will compete for the title of best carne guisada at this South Texas cookoff. July 19, 2008: 3rd Annual Cheeseburger Cookoff and Festival, Friona. This Panhandle community, which holds the title as the Cheeseburger Capital of Texas, celebrates the burger with this cookoff in City Park. Teams compete for prizes and visitors are sure winners with plenty of cheeseburgers to enjoy. July 24-26, 2008: The Great Texas Mosquito Festival, Clute. Clute celebrates summer's inevitable biting residents with a three-day event including carnival rides and family activities. July 30-Aug. 3, 2008: 70th Annual Texas International Fishing Tournament, South Padre Island. This five-day event draws anglers to compete in bay, offshore and tarpon categories.
