Enchanted Forest Renaissance Faire
Ingleside, Texas

When: early December

Where: Live Oak Park in Ingleside, Texas

Graced with three tennis courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, a softball field and a brightly-colored children's playscape, Live Oak Park is the picture of a modern day recreation area. For one weekend in December, however, the past and the present happily co-habitate inside the 90-acre sanctuary as the coastal bend community of Ingleside transforms winter's chill into a midsummer night's dream worthy of The Bard.

Previously remembered by Rennies as the Ingleside Renaissance Faire, this southeast Texas melange of merriment from the Middle Ages features annual demonstrations of derring-do from the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), who face armored rivals in a joust, fling arrows in a manner to rival that of Robin Hood during an archery match, and use their rapier wit to triumph in fencing.

While noble knights make maidens hearts melt, the exotic beauty of belly dancers and saucy soliloquies from world-wise wenches mesmerize the males. After enjoying the period performances, sit down to sup at a feast fit for a king-- King Henry VIII, to be exact, who will dine on an array of global gourmet delights as fire dancers, musicians and storytellers entertain the royal and his culinary companions.

Before the calendar leaps forward to the 21st century once again, be sure to browse among the tables of trinkets for a souvenir of your sojourn to the past.
