Hardin County MusicFest
Kountze, Texas
When: May
Where: Hardin County Entertainment Ranch in Kountze
Fittingly referred to as "The Big Light in the Big Thicket," the southeast Texas community of Kountze shines a spotlight on the Lone Star state's musical diversity during this two-day event.
Musical Menagerie: The "Music Village" will be home to multiple stages that will showcase artists that will jam in the genres of blues, cajun, Christian, country, folk, Latin, Native American, pop and rock. There will also be a main stage for nationally-known acts. [2009 performers]
If the performers inspire you to belt out a tune, step up to the mic in the karaoke contest.
Motorcycle Madness: Let the roar of engines direct you to a parade cavalcade of chrome and leather, then check out the choppers in the "show and shine" competition and cheer on the riders geared up for an array of bike games. For auto enthusiasts, there will be a 4 X 4 and truck show.
Children's Activities: Little ones can make a few new furry friends at the petting zoo, bounce on a moonwalk, tap into their inner artist at a crafts area and have a colorful flower or star applied to their cheeks at a face painting booth, while pre-teens can have fun tackling a rock wall.
Sauce-y Showdown: Just as the festival's musical performers offer a musical gumbo, weekend chefs showcase their culinary craftsmanship in the gumbo cook-off. Foodies can also root for the best in brisket and ribs categories during the TGCBCA-sanctioned BBQ cook-off.
