McDade Heritage Day
McDade, Texas

When: mid-October

Where: Events take place around the McDade Historical Museum.

Located in northern Bastrop county, join the residents of McDade for a day-long salute to yesteryear.

Activities:

• The sound of gunshots will once again ring out in the streets of the town as re-enactors conjure up the ghosts of the area's outlaw past in the McDade Christmas Day Shootout.

• The facades of the town's buildings in their glory days and the portraits of the townspeople which once walked through their doors are captured in the sepia-toned images on display at the McDade Historical Museum.

• A number of nostalgic novelty acts, such as a six-gun spinner, bullwhip expert and trick shot and a medicine man show will be on hand to wow the crowd.

• The clip clop of horses' hooves announce the arrival of the Trail Riders as they make their way to town from Mueller Ranch.

• Rustle up some grub prepared by camp cooks at a chuckwagon.

• The hammer and anvil of a smithee pounds out the rhythm of what was once the town's heartbeat during a blacksmithing demonstration, the persistent beat blending with the sounds of a banjo and fiddle in an ode to old-time tunes played by a gathering of musicians.

• Young buckaroos can enjoy games played by their great-great-great grandparents, have fun with Starz the Counting Horse and make a corn husk doll at the Kids Corral.

• Search for a souvenir of your day in McDade among vendor booths brimming with arts and crafts.
