Cowboy Breakfast
San Antonio, Texas

When: late January[check for this year's dates]

Where: The event has moved five times over the three decades it has been held; the latest location is I-10 West at Bass Pro Shops.

Known for: the world's largest free breakfast

Events: Sponsored by the Cowboy Breakfast Foundation, the event benefits scholarship funds and kicks off rodeo season with a Texas-sized cowboy breakfast.

And just what is a cowboy breakfast, you ask? In this case, a cowboy breakfast means a real Texas favorite: scrambled eggs along with tender biscuits beneath plenty of country gravy plus breakfast tacos, tamales, chorizo, sausage, and more.

The event has fed as many as 50,000 diners; most years, about 30,000 are expected.

And, after such a big breakfast, you just can't go back to work, can you? A big after-party is typically scheduled after the breakfast to kick off the weekend and San Antonio's rodeo season.

Admission: free.
