Guinness Dyeing O' the River Green & St. Patrick's Day Parade
San Antonio, Texas

When: days surrounding St. Patrick's Day [check for this year's dates]

Where: River Walk

Known for: dyeing of the San Antonio River

Events: The river is actually dyed green for the day and renamed "The River Shannon." On this day, mariachi music gives way to Irish song and dance and the River Walk turns into a huge pub crawl.

The next day, the river hosts a floating parade with Irish dignitaries, pipers and drummers, and the spirit of the old country. This is another huge event on the River Walk with about 15,000 onlookers for the parade.

Admission: Tickets are sold for the Pub Crawl although admission to see the river parade is free.
