Fort Stockton, Texas Travel Guide

This West Texas community lies in the heart of the Chihuahuan Desert and is a popular stop on the road to or from El Paso.

Fort Stockton holds the designation as a Main Street City and has refurbished many storefronts to their original historic appearance.

Buildings such as the 1884 jail and the Grey Mule Saloon recall the days when this was a frontier army post.

Attractions:

Annie Riggs Memorial Museum. Built in 1899 as a hotel, thoday this museum is filled with local history exhibits and memorabilia from Camp Stockton.

Big Bend National Park.

Historic Fort Stockton. The original and reconstructed buildings from the 1858 fort include the officers' quarters, a guardhouse, and a jail. Located off US 290 at 300 East Third Street.

Paisano Pete. Another Texas-sized statue, this 22-foot-tall fiberglass bird is probably the largest roadrunner statue in the world. Located at Dickenson Street and Main Street.
