Fritch, Texas Travel Guide

Region: Panhandle Plains

This small town makes a good stop on the way to Amarillo. The community is noted for its Alibates Flint, and it's one of the few places where this material is found. In fact, flint has been sought since the first inhabitants came to the region.

Attractions

Lake Meredith Aquatic and Wildlife Museum. This museum contains aquariums filled with fish and other marine life that are found in Lake Meredith. Located at 104 North Robey. Admission is free.

Lake Meredith National Recreational Area. This 16,500-acre lake showcases the bluffs of the Canadian River valley. Camping, picnicking, boating, and fishing are available as well as ranger-led tours (by appointment only) of the Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument which contains quarries used by prehistoric man and Native Americans to obtain flint. Located off TX 136, seven miles south of Fritch.

McBride House. Built into the side of a hill, this old ranch was owned by the McBride family who were prosperous ranchers. At this time, you can only take a look at the outside of this unusual house; the interior has not been restored. Located in McBride Canyon Road, six miles south of Fritch off TX 136.
