Texas Seaport Museum and the Elissa

Thousands of immigrants made their way through this port, earning it the name "Little Ellis Island." In fact, it's second only to Ellis Island as an immigration station.

Today the Texas Seaport Museum survey's Galveston's shipping history and there's a database containing the names of over 133,000 immigrants who entered the US here.

You can also take a self-guided tour of th Elissa, an 1877 square-rigged ship that now serves as a maritime museum.

Location: Pier 21
