Harper-Chesser Historic Inn, Georgetown, Texas

Downtown, one of Georgetown's oldest houses today serves as a bed and breakfast inn. The Harper-Chesser Historic Inn is listed in the National Registry of Historic Homes. This land was part of the survey assigned to Georgetown founder, George Washington Glasscock. He sold 70 acres to a pioneer doctor, Dr. George Smithers Coleman Harper in 1857. The house changed hands several times, then in 1876 became the property of county judge Daniel Chesser. Chesser's grandfather, James Gaines, was part of the committee that declared Texas's independence in 1836. During the judge's ownership, a two-story addition to the front of the house was constructed.

In 1990, the house was completely restored and converted to its present role as an elegant bed and breakfast inn. Four rooms with private baths await guests, each room featuring hand painted murals, antique furnishings, and cutwork linens.

Traditional Southern breakfasts are served in the dining room, decorated with antique pine furnishings and featuring one of the six fireplaces within the home. High noon tea with scones and clotted cream is served by appointment on the veranda. The verandah overlooks the garden, a popular spot for weddings and parties.
