Granger, Texas Travel Guide Region: Prairies & Lakes
The agricultural community of Granger is notable because of its brick Davilla Street, the community’s main avenue. This street was paved with bricks in 1912, a feat that the Granger News said made Granger “the only city in the state of less than 5000 inhabitants that has paved streets, or is paving them.” Today Granger still has far fewer than 5000 residents and Davilla Street is still paved with red bricks. You’ll find the town divided by railroad tracks with a few businesses both east and west of TX 95. Attractions Granger Lake. (512) 859-2668; www.tpwd.state.tx.us. Located east of Granger this 4,064-acre lake was created in 1980 on the San Gabriel River. Today the lake is a favorite with local anglers and boaters; you’ll find four parks operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Catfish and crappie are top catches in the lake and lucky anglers also have the chance at white bass and the rarer largemouth bass. Parks are found on the north, west, and south sides of the lake:
